Meet Team Edgerton Public Library

We’re thrilled to be working with the Edgerton Public Library as part of the Recollection Wisconsin Digitization Initiative. Their project involves digitizing some of the oldest print issues of the Edgerton Reporter and Edgerton Tobacco Reporter dating back to 1885. In addition to scanning and creating metadata for these issues, the project team will work with Prairie Lakes Library System staff to upload digitized content to ResCarta and Recollection Wisconsin.

Julia Lalor, UW-iSchool student intern

Julia Lalor is their graduate student intern and currently in her last semester at the UW-Madison iSchool. She’s interested in working in archives, and especially enjoys reference and public service work. She’s held positions at the UW-Madison Archives and the Wisconsin Historical Society. Julia lives in Verona, Wisconsin with her family. Outside of work and school, she loves to read, bake and sing in her church choir. Fun fact? Julia loves to plan meals and grocery shop, so she’s always looking for new recipes. She’s thrilled to learn more about digitization and combine her experience in archives and public libraries for this project.

Beth Krebs Smith, Edgerton Public Library director

Julia’s host site supervisor is Edgerton Public Library director, Beth Krebs-Smith. Beth’s been a familiar face at the library for about five years and became the director two years ago. She started her career as a technical writer and then a marketing writer at a health insurance company. She continued to do freelance writing for businesses. She took a job at the library and loved it and decided to return to school for her MLIS degree. Beth lives in Edgerton, Wisconsin with her family and a menagerie of beloved furry friends including Newfoundland, Saint Bernard and German Shepherd/Bluetick Coonhound mix dogs. She loves sewing, quilting, knitting and other paper crafts. Beth is thrilled to digitize and offer easier public access to this well-used and very old and crumbling newspaper collection!

Our hearty thanks to Team Edgerton Public Library and the Prairie Lakes Library System staff for their collaboration on this project. We can’t wait to peruse these pages online.
