Travel Back in Time to Kewaskum

Established along a horseshoe bend in the Milwaukee River, Kewaskum was incorporated in 1895. The name “Kewaskum” comes from a Potawatomi word which meant alternately “turning back on his tracks” or “retracing his steps.” The Kewaskum Public Library, which provided all of the images, has an essay about the Potawatomi and its Chief for whom the village is named for historical context.
