Travel Back in Time to Lone Rock

Lone Rock, in Richland County, got its name from a massive pile of sandstone that was a landmark for early raftsmen on the Wisconsin River. The rock itself was used in the town development, with pieces forming farm structures, the foundation of the Congregational Church, and the foundations for many more houses in Lone Rock.

Living up to this reputation, Lone Rock Flight Service Station really made news on the 30th of January, 1951, when Ben Silko, on duty at the time, had to make the final weather reading with calipers because the numbers on the thermometer did not get low enough -53 degrees below zero was recorded at 6:00 a.m. that date.
