Travel Back in Time to Mauston

The county seat of Juneau County, Mauston is situated along the poetically named Lemonweir River.

A dam and sawmill were built on the site of Mauston in 1842, but growth was slow until 1866 when the Lemonweir River was bridged. New Lisbon challenged Mauston for the position of county seat, but Mauston won out in 1864. Wisconsin Historical Society.
