Travel Back in Time to Vesper

The village of Vesper is named for the vesper sparrow described by Audubon as, “a rather chunky sparrow of the open fields,” that was common to the area. First formed around a sawmill in the 1870s, Vesper was incorporated in 1948. Images are from McMillan Memorial Library.

Carsten Otto and Herman Dassow formed a partnership and opened a general store on January 1, 1904. In 1905, Herman Dassow purchased the full interest of the operation.
