We’re thrilled to see the Recollection Wisconsin Digitization Initiative featured in this week’s UW-Madison Information School news. The story introduces three of our summer 2026 graduate students interns-Katy Kulie, Sophia Auron, and Hazel Johnson- all current graduate students in the iSchool, and shares their experiences digitizing archival collections at Northcentral Technical College, the Wisconsin Library Association, and Gateway Technical College this past semester.
For the students, these projects were an opportunity to put what they’ve learned in the classroom into practice with real collections. As Katy described her experience, “I learned how to select materials, scan and digitize them following best practices, write metadata for each item, and use archival software to manage and upload these resources to an online platform.”
Experiences like these are exactly why we launched the Recollection Wisconsin Digitization Initiative: meaningful, hands-on opportunities for emerging information professionals while helping Wisconsin organizations preserve and share collections that might otherwise remain hidden or difficult to access. We’re grateful to the UW-Madison iSchool and CDIS administration, faculty, and staff for their continued support of the initiative, their students, and the partnerships that make this work possible.
