The Recollection Wisconsin Digitization Initiative summer cohort started their project work this month. This summer, we’re working with four new organziations and graduate students to digitize some very unique Wisconsin local history collections.

We’re excited to work with the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD) to digitize and provide access to materials from the Guido Brink Collection. Originally from Germany, artist and designer Guido Brink (1913–2003) was renowned for his metal sculptures and paintings, as well as for founding the Milwaukee Institute of Arts and Design (MIAD). This project involves digitizing, describing, and sharing materials from the collection to preserve Brink’s legacy and make his work more accessible to the public.
Leading the effort is UW-Milwaukee SOIS graduate student Ceceilia Loeschmann and host site supervisors, Monica Miller and Steven D. Anderson.
Ceceilia Loeschmann is a dual-degree graduate student at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, pursuing an MLIS and an MA in Art History. She has eight years of experience working in local libraries, archives, and academic settings, and is particularly interested in exhibit design, research, and community engagement. Ceceilia is currently completing her thesis on the wrapped works of Christo and Jeanne-Claude and hopes to work in the GLAM field or academia after graduation.

Monica Miller is a Milwaukee-based artist and cultural producer with a background in gallery and public art curation, professional development, and small business support for creatives. They have worked with arts organizations across the Midwest, including INOVA, gener8tor, and Wormfarm Institute.
Monica currently serves as the Director of Galleries and Community Engagement at the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD), where they opened the college’s first off-site, public-facing exhibition space, MIAD Gallery at The Ave.

Steven D. Anderson has worked in Milwaukee’s arts community for nearly 30 years and is the Exhibitions & Collections Manager at MIAD. For the past 19 years, he has supported students, faculty, and visiting artists with exhibition planning, installation, and collections care. Steven also runs a ceramics studio, IronClayWorks, out of his home in Milwaukee’s Bay View neighborhood.
Located in Milwaukee’s Historic Third Ward, MIAD is Wisconsin’s only four-year, private college devoted exclusively to art and design, with a strong emphasis on community engagement and experiential learning.
Welcome Team MIAD! Much gratitude to our partners at the UW-Milwaukee SOIS and UW-Madison iSchool and the state of Wisconsin for enabling this opportunity in Fall 2024, Spring 2025, and Summer 2025.
